Website Review
An outside view of your website.
It’s easy to go blind to your own website. Website Review is a clear, reasoned assessment of what works on your site, where there’s room for improvement — and which five things are worth fixing first.
Most websites aren’t bad. They’re imprecise.
The message is almost right. The structure is nearly clear. The look is close to what the business would like to be. But the whole doesn’t quite carry, and the reason is hard to see for yourself — especially if you were involved in building it.
Website Review gives you an outside designer’s view. I go through your site the way I would if I were starting a new project with it: what the visitor sees first, where their attention settles, what they understand, and where the site starts to lose them.
What you get is a clear picture of what to keep, what to change, and what to tackle first.
You receive the assessment in writing. No long meeting, no lengthy slide deck — a clear, reasoned assessment that makes the site easy to develop from, whether on your own or with a maker of your choosing.
What the review includes
- an assessment of the visual design: typography, colour, rhythm and empty space
- user experience notes: structure, navigation and the visitor’s path
- a check of the mobile view on a real device
- an assessment of how well the site and the brand hold together
- the five most important concrete improvements, in order of priority
- a clear written summary as a PDF

How it works
Four steps, no more.
01
You tell me about your site
I need your website address, your field, your audience, and briefly what bothers you most about the site.
02
I go through it
On desktop and on a phone, unhurried and as a whole — not against a checklist but through a visitor's eyes.
03
I write the review
You get a written assessment as a PDF within 5–10 working days of my receiving what I need.
04
You decide what's next
You can act on it yourself, hand it to your own developer, or continue with me. None of these is a condition of the others.
Good to know
What counts as a view?
A view means one individual web page or a clearly separate page template: a home page, a service page, a contact page or an article page.
On a single-page website, one clearly distinct content section counts as one view. The mobile and desktop versions of the same page count as one view.
If your site turns out to be larger than the tier you chose, I'll contact you before starting the work. You can then either top up the payment or cancel and get your money back. For sites of more than ten views I'll prepare a separate quote.
What the review doesn't include
Website Review is a designer's view, not a technical audit.
The service does not include a technical audit, a security audit, an accessibility audit, a legal review, a detailed SEO audit, or writing or proofreading content.
Nor does it include making the changes to your site. The review says what's worth doing; doing it is separate work.
One site at a time
The review covers one website. It includes one round: you receive the assessment, and it's complete.
I take on a limited number of reviews each week, so that every one gets the same attention. That's also why the delivery time is a promise rather than an estimate.
If you later decide to continue with me into a website project, the price of the Website Review is credited against the Evolving Web set-up fee. The credit is valid for six months from the delivery of the review and applies to at most one previously purchased service.
No obligation to continue.
Website Review is a service in its own right. You get the assessment and it's yours — whether you act on it alone, with your own developer, or with me. Tell me your website address and I'll check whether it fits this scope.
